Rock’s first album since 2007′s “Rock N Roll Jesus” was produced by Rick Rubin. First single “Born Free” will be released in late June, Rock said Saturday during his visit to Detroit’s Movement festival.
Among the songs slated for the album are “Care,” which features Martina McBride and T.I., “Flying High,” which features Zac Brown, and “Collide,” featuring Sheryl Crow. “Collide” also features none other than Bob Seger on piano.
“I asked him to be on the track and he didn’t call me back,” Rock said of the Seger duet. “I started getting really nervous, and then a couple days later he showed up at the studio, by himself. I said, ‘Bob, why didn’t you call? I didn’t think you were going to do it!’ He said, ‘I was practicing.’”
Rock calls “Care” a “monster,” and says T.I. and McBride were unaware of each other before the duet. What they have in common, it seems, is a friendship with Kid Rock.
“I’m the catalyst for everything,” Rock said, between puffs of a cigar.
Prior to the new album’s release, Rock will play three sold-out shows at DTE Energy Music Theatre, Aug. 13, 14 and 15.
