Kid Rock New Album "Born Free" will be out in September

Kid Rock is set to launch his new album a Sept. 7 , which he says will be called “Born Free.”

Rock’s first album since 2007′s “Rock N Roll Jesus” was produced by Rick Rubin. First single “Born Free” will be released in late June, Rock said Saturday during his visit to Detroit’s Movement festival.

Among the songs slated for the album are “Care,” which features Martina McBride and T.I., “Flying High,” which features Zac Brown, and “Collide,” featuring Sheryl Crow. “Collide” also features none other than Bob Seger on piano.

“I asked him to be on the track and he didn’t call me back,” Rock said of the Seger duet. “I started getting really nervous, and then a couple days later he showed up at the studio, by himself. I said, ‘Bob, why didn’t you call? I didn’t think you were going to do it!’ He said, ‘I was practicing.’”

Rock calls “Care” a “monster,” and says T.I. and McBride were unaware of each other before the duet. What they have in common, it seems, is a friendship with Kid Rock.

“I’m the catalyst for everything,” Rock said, between puffs of a cigar.

Prior to the new album’s release, Rock will play three sold-out shows at DTE Energy Music Theatre, Aug. 13, 14 and 15.

Rock’s Made in Detroit clothing company is sponsoring one of Movement’s five stages.

Kid Rock Detroit 2010 Concerts Tickets on Sale Soon

Kid Rock will perform Aug. 13 and 14 at DTE Energy Music Theatre , a prelude to his Rick Rubin-produced album due in late summer.

Tickets for the shows, announced late this afternoon by promoter Live Nation, will go on sale at 10 a.m. May 28. More details, including ticket prices, are expected Monday.

DTE is a familiar venue for Rock, who has headlined more than 10 shows at the amphitheater. He also has made an assortment of cameo appearances at the venue, which is just down the road from his Clarkston home.

Today’s announcement follows a playful online campaign, “It Isn’t Summer in Detroit Without a Kid Rock Concert,” which drew nearly 2,000 followers after being launched last month by an anonymous Facebook user.

Expect the shows to be one of the seaon’s hottest tickets. A pair of Kid Rock shows last summer drew more than 80,000 fans to Comerica Park.
