Kid Rock hosted the 2010 CMT Awards great!

Critics are positive about his hosting skills, but hopes he keeps touring instead…

“Ain’t no party like a Kid Rock party.” The rap-rock-country boy made good in his turn as host of the CMT Awards June 9 in Nashville.

Last night’s CMT stage may as well have been a billowy pool hall as Kid Rock, 39, smoked and drank his way through the show.

Rock kicked off the night by performing a medley of his signature tunes “Cowboy” and “Bawitdaba,” with the melody of the “Dukes of Hazzard” theme, “Good Ol’ Boys” tossed in the stew.

He described Lady Antebellum as “the hillbilly Fleetwood Mac.” Adding “I suspect they don’t do drugs or sleep with each other.”

Although Rock was unabashedly tipsy, he made sure no Kanye West-shenanigans went down on his clock (alluding to the rapper’s infamous Taylor Swift interruption at the MTV awards last fall). “Anyone thinking about grabbing a mic, myself or Bocephus will personally punch you in the mouth, all right?” said Rock. “We might even get Trace Adkins on the deal.”

Though there were some minor slip-ups, as when Rock introduced Reba McIntire only to bring out “Saturday Night Live” comedian Kenan Thompson (who eventually teamed with Reba), he proved a good host.

During the closing, as Kid Rock presented the final award of the night with his “Picture” duet partner Sheryl Crow, he asked: “Will you just have my baby and let’s get it over?”

“If it’s a girl, maybe,” replied the single mom, who had just adopted her second son.

Kid Rock surely made this shindig “somethin’ special.”

More Info about Kid Rock’s Song “Rock N Roll Jesus”

“Rock N Roll Jesus” is the fifth single from Kid Rock’s album Rock N Roll Jesus. It was typical bravado-laced Kid Rock about sex, drugs and rock and roll. It is a hard rock song with a jazz influence and a funk guitar riff strongly influenced by the AC/DC song Get it Hot. The song was co-written by former lead gutairist Kenny Tudrick, who replaced Kenny Olson on the 2006 ‘Live’ Trucker tour.

The chorus included David McMurray on saxophone and Rayse Biggs on trumpet, both formerly with the 80′s group Was (Not Was). Larry Frantangelo could also be heard on the Wave Drums. It peaked at number 34 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.

Lyrics:

“Rock N Roll Jesus”

Turn me up in the headphones

Been alotta cheap talk but I rock still

From the streets of Shanghai back to Knoxville

Sittin’ high on a mountain top holdin’ shop spreadin’ the good news

Been alotta false prophets and quick hits

And a lot of unAmerican bullshit

But the time has come to settle and the devil’s gonna make u choose

And just like a cold wind blowin’ can u feel me comin’ for u

Just like a freight train rollin’ packed tight full of rhythm and blues

Testify

It’s a Rock revival

Don’t need a suit

Ya don’t need a bible

Get up and dance

I’m gonna set you free yeah

Testify

It’s all sex, drugs, rock n roll

A soul sensation that you can’t control

And you can see I practice what I preach

I’m your rock n roll Jesus

Yes I am

Been alotta bling bling but it ain’t real

And alotta new kings but I won’t kneel

Sittin’ high on a mountain top, holdin’ shop singin’ the raw dog blues

Like in old Mississippi’s dirty cotton fields

Or in Detroit City’s unforgotten wheels

It’s the same song spinning but the same song’s always been true

And I’m gonna take my roll cuz I ain’t got nothin’ to lose

And I’m gonna save your soul if it’s really what you want me to do

[Repeat chorus]

Get on your knees

I’m your rock n roll Jesus

Tour Updates Uncle Kracker More Info festival Myrtle Beach Saturday, June 5

Back in March when ’90s college rock heroes Cracker performed at Ocean Boulevard’s St. Patrick’s Day Festival, the rumor mill about town erroneously floated the notion that it was Uncle Kracker playing instead. Fast Forward to Saturday and former Kid Rock sidekick Uncle Kracker (“Follow Me,” “Smile” and the remake of Dobie Gray’s “Drift Away”) is playing in Myrtle Beach, as part of the Sun Fun Festival kick-off at Grand Park on the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, across from the Market Common, following in the footsteps of Third Eye Blind and Lifehouse who played the festival the last couple of years. Activity, featuring the usual festival stuff such as food and craft vendors and kid-friendly attractions, begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and a slate of local and regional bands will warm up the crowd for Uncle Kracker, including local rockers The Necessary Band at 2 p.m., R&B party outfit Tru Sol at 4 p.m. and Superglide at 6 p.m. Uncle Kracker is expected to take the main stage at 8 p.m. The festival and concert are free. Grand Park is off of Farrow Parkway on the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, which is bounded by U.S. 17 Business and U.S. 17 Bypass, just south of Myrtle Beach International Airport.
